Went and saw "Aeon Flux" yesterday. Having never even known it existed as a comic before seeing the movie, I guess I didn't really have anything to hold up to it as a standard. It wasn't as action-packed as I expected (don't shoot me). Seriously, I was more interested in the underlying story than the action . . .which is different for me, because usually I'm all about the kicking-butt and especially the strong female lead character. To be honest though, I wasn't all that drawn to Charlize Theron's character, didn't find such a strong affinity for her. Yes, I understood her motivation and so forth, but I was much more interested in Martin Csokas' character, Trevor Goodchild.
I must point out, however, that this is not because I"m female and he's the male lead. I'm fascinated by the fact that I find the character of Trevor Goodchild in the movie so appealing. It occurs to me, since I've been reading more about the comic lately, that I may not have liked him in the comic quite so well.
I spent quite a bit of time puzzling over the whole thing last night. It seems I was in a bit of an introspective mood. And I think, in the end, it comes down to the fact that she was taught to kill, trained to kill, to destroy, that was her mission. And he, on the other hand, over years and years and years, continued to teach his successive selves, to value life, to live and to try to find ways to help others really live. Also that he valued that more than his own ability to live forever.
And it really all comes down to passion. Which seems like such a sexual word, but in this instance, I don't mean it in that way. I mean a passion for life. And that includes all the emotions, not just love and happiness and hope, but anger and determination and sadness and even despair (as long as you find a way to get past it).
Ummm, yes, so I suppose that should be it for my philosophic ramblings for the day . . .
Spanakopita is yummy.

I don't like Charlize Theron as an actress, so I'm still wary about seeing the film...

2.) Charlize Theron. Boyfriend? Stuart Townsend (Lestat, Queen of the Damned). Instant hate. Also, blonde. Also . . . haven't really like any of her movies till now (at least, none come to mind at the moment.) However . . .
Marton Csokas? Yum. XD Not the most spectacular scifi I've ever seen in terms of action and so on . . . but . . . someone pointed out that the actual science fantasy STUFF, like the way they communicate and modifications made to people's bodies and stuff . . . pretty well done.
I think it's worth seeing. It might have been my mood, but I ended up pondering different people's ways of dealing with life's problems. (Come back, come back! TOO DEEP!!! . . . for a comic probably anyway. *shrugs*). If you're not sure though, I don't think you'd lose too much by waiting 'till it hits $2.

I love that place, I usually eat there when I miss my family a lot (we're super Arabs, but then, you probably understand that well too!).
Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing it at the Starship!

2. I haven't seen Narnia yet, but there was much discussion on it at the scifi night that Josh and I go to. The guys who had seen it were very excited about it, said that it stayed quite close to the books and that the animals were great. Both David and I had seen the old BBC version, so I suppose that will color my judgement as to how well the film was made.
I'm supposed to join a group of people from Union to go see it tonight. It'll probably be easier to drag Josh along, after the discussion of last night :D
